No real big deal but it makes seat removal a bit of a chore. Just something to consider if you start adding insulation. Oh, BTW, the carper set I used was real nice and had thick backing and if your carpet does not have this backing, it may not be a problem Lord, please give me patience because if you give me strength I will have to ask for bail money, too.
There is a fair amount of sound deadening backing on the back side of the tunnel piece, so it is pretty thick. It's think enough that the handbrake lever will be tight for a while, so I'm likely in the same boat that you were! Kim de B Kim de Bourbon. At the risk of being redundant, I had this in my files, from when I installed mine. Depending on the type and fit of your carpet, you may find there is no need to attach the footwell carpet.
I never have. It fits in snug, and I always drive with the heavy rubber Amco mats on top of it. Makes it easy to dry out the carpets should they ever get wet. The footwell carpets I'm actually going to try heavy duty velcro at the corners. Should be enough to hold it in place and i have the mats as well I used clear POR on the floor, so don't think moisture should be a problem from the velcro and this is also strictly a fair weather car although it will be regularly driven I ran wires for stereo in flexible plastic conduit along the side of it as well.
Saul, I tried the HD velcro idea. Did not work. There was nothing substansial enough on the backing of my carpet to glue too. The backing would just come apart when I tried to remove the mats. The velcro was stronger than the backing, May have to sew the velcro to the mats Lord, please give me patience because if you give me strength I will have to ask for bail money, too.
Yeah I was thinking that as well, but the sound deadening on this carpet set is pretty robust I guess I'll know in a couple days!!! I got the tranny tunnel, sill covers, heelboard, wheel well covers and the small L-shaped carpet pieces under the seat belts glued in tonight.
Tomorrow I'll work on the foot well carpets. I picked up a bunch of stainless steel oval head metal screws and finish washers to install those. I'll also prep the rear floor carpeting for the arrival of the packing strips! So far it's coming along really nice. To reply or ask your own question: Members Sign In.

Install the new carpeting on the side sills with the narrow end toward the front of the car. Spray adhesive on the sills and on the back of the carpet.
Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then lay it in place. Pull and stretch the carpet until it is correctly installed. Install the carpet on both sides.
Install the carpet that covers the ramp in the rear area of the car. Spray adhesive on the ramp and on the back of the carpet. Lay it down so the top of the carpet piece is even with the top of the ramp. Install the front toe board next. Reuse the old screws that held in the original carpeting to install the new pieces. Install the rear wheel arch covers by first removing the rear cockpit panel.
This may need to be drilled out with a power drill and then riveted back in after the carpeting is installed. Glue the wheel arch covers into place. Hi Guest! Thread starter Newkie Start date Jul 17, Newkie Jedi Trainee. I can not find for the life of me, find instructions on installing the VB carpet I bought a few yrs. Any PDF or picture installation guide would help, or detail instructions from one of you will be greatly appreciated. We are putting it in this coming week. There are no snaps on the carpet or in the car.
Would you use snaps, or just use the 3M spray glue? Also, the floor mats have a foam backing along with the tranny tunnel carpet. Would you still add backing for heat and sound, or just skip that and use what they have? Thanks Art P. I know a lot of questions, but just want to have all my eggs in one basket when I tackle this project. If there are previous post on the forum that would help, can you please direct me to them.
I never have good luck with the search option. Art, I'd insulate the tunnel, as it reduces heat and some noise. The snaps you have to install yourself in some kits, which I think is a good idea, as not all snaps fixed to the car are in the exact same position in various models.
Rocker panels and wheel well carpets are glued in place. If I remember correctly, the rest of the panels are screwed in place with chrome screws and washers.
The floor carpet is not glued in my car as the seats hold the back and the front has two screws with snaps. PJ Rocker carpet glued on. Tunnel held with screws, floor carpet, console etc.
